News ~ Newyddion 2011
Now that the Summer is coming to an end we are now looking forward to our Harvest Festival Service on 9 October which will include a presentation by Gwenallt and Non Rees from the Tabernacal, Cardiff about their commitment to work with and educate the people particularly the children of Lesotha. We will also be joined by Eschoir at that Service. Our Family Christmas Service will be on 11 December. Both these services will be bilingual.
Unfortunately our Christmas Service in 2010 was postponed until January due to the snow but on 9 January we celebrated with an appropriate Service in the company of our Church Leader Eiri, The Rt Hon Simon Hughes MP PC and Eschoir our resident choir. Eschoir are always willing to take part in our services and have become part of our congregation. Our Gwyl Ddewi Service was resurrected and we were entertained by a Ladies Choir with soloist Sara Baines; Eschoir were competing in Cor Cymru that weekend.
Sunday June 26 was a memorable day for the Borough when the Rev. Dewi Myrddin Hughes took the service and members of Heol Awst, Caerfyrddin with the Rev. Towyn Jones joined us following their pilgrimage along the paths of John Penri. Eschoir and Wales’ representative at Cardiff Singer of the Year John Pierce joined us at that service. We look forward to John taking part in our Christmas service. 80 people sat down to lunch prepared by Howel Jones.
We are looking forward very much to the book being prepared by the Rev. Towyn Jones about the life of John Penri. Megan Evans and Annette Hughes have prepared a report of this event for the Tyst. We are preparing a full programme of actives for the Autumn/Winter under the guidance of our recently appointed Social Secretary Neil Evans which starts with a Garden Supper on 10 September, MacMillan Cancer Support 30 September and the start of a monthly Soup Kitchen 8 October.
We are pleased to congratulate Rowenna Hughes on being appointed a MBE in the recent Queens Honours list.
